Suez Canal
The Suez Canal is currently controlled by Egypt, I about 50 in 3 convoys a day pass through the canal. The Suez Canal is very important in the world because ships use it save a lot to time and a lot of gas is transported through the canal. If it wasn't for the Suez Canal they would have to travel around Africa which would mean our gas prices would be skyhigh.

India
The Sepoys and the British were the key players in this uprising. In 1857 a rumor spread among the Sepoys that the cartridges of their New Enfield rifles were sealed with beef and pork fat. When they heard this they were outraged, because Hindus consider the cow sacred and Muslims don't eat pork. They rebelled the next day May 10th, 1857. This uprising was pretty successful it lasted for a year, and that's a long time considering they were going up against the most powerful country of this time.
Indirect
I would control my colonies indirectly, because local governments can have a say and the foreign power wouldn't have to be in the colony. They would be self-sufficient, citizens would have some say which would mean less uprisings. An example of indirect control would be India a British colony.
Imperialism
Three ways Imperialism helped the world were it helped us find raw materials to trade and improve our economies, like diamonds and gold. Since there were a lot of mosquitoes in Africa Europeans created quinine which protected them from diseases like malaria. Lastly it provided us different crops that we still have today.
Three ways Imperialism hurt the world was it stripped some countries of their culture, Assimilation. It also took all the raw resources from the colonies. Lastly, it claimed a lot of lives.

Advancement in Science
The biggest advancement in science was the invention of the electricity. Because before people used gas lights, and now they can bring the magic of electricity into their homes. Thomas Edison and his staff created the light bulb in 1879. If it wasn't for the invention of the light bulb we wouldn't be able to see at night, travel, mine, and see during wars, we would not be where we are today if it wasn't for the light bulb.
Thomas Edison
The Electric pen was invented by Edison and his staff in 1875. Used an electric motor to drive the small needle up and down the shaft of the pen. When the user wrote it created a stencil, then this stencil was placed in the press. Where a roller used squeegee ink through the holes of the stencil, which created a copy of the document. I think it did because it became a huge business and it gave people the ability to copy their documents. http://edison.rutgers.edu/pen.htm
Introdution to Chapter 10-11
Chapter 10-11 is about the Victorian age, and how countries are now starting to adopt the idea of democracy. People are trying to gain suffrage rights so they can have a voice in their government. Inventions that were created during the Industrial Revolution were modernizied, like now people used electricity instead of gas lighting. Lastly people started to come up with new innovations like pasteurization, the Theory of Evolution, and, Psychology.Chapter 11 is about European Imperialism in Africa and different types of Imperialism the Europeans used. A country in Africa could be a Protectorate, colony, sphere of influence, or a Economic Imperialism. With this blog I hope to learn more about Imperalism and the Victorian Age.
