India

The Sepoys and the British were the key players in this uprising. In 1857 a rumor spread among the Sepoys that the cartridges of their New Enfield rifles were sealed with beef and pork fat. When they heard this they were outraged, because Hindus consider the cow sacred and Muslims don't eat pork. They rebelled the next day May 10th, 1857. This uprising was pretty successful it lasted for a year, and that's a long time considering they were going up against the most powerful country of this time.
